Sustainability Program

Inspiring Sustainable Impact means....

Providing ways for attendees and exhibitors to be more sustainable at our events and throughout the rest of the year. Click the + signs below to see our guides.

Water Conservation

  • Participate in your hotel’s Linen ReUse Program- Did you know that you can often earn Rewards points for participating? Ask your hotel about their specific awards incentives!
  • Take shorter showers to save water and time!

Waste Reduction

  • Use a refillable water bottle and coffee cup throughout the conference.
  • Take only what you need at food functions.
  • Download the official Expo West app that'll have important event information including the show map!
  • Ask for a recycling bag for your hotel room if one isn’t in place.
  • Beacon Discovery profiles provide key details about brands, including product and contact information, reducing the need for printed materials. Favorite products of brands you want to remember, and easily find your list on Beacon Discovery, all year round.

Energy Conservation

  • Turn off lights and thermostat when leaving your hotel room.
  • If exhibiting, be sure to power down your booth at the end of each show day.

Air Quality/CO2 Impact

  • Carpool or take public transport to/from the airport and to/from your hotel. Make new friends and contacts while saving CO2!
  • Take advantage of the free hotel shuttle (if available)… or even better, walk if possible.
  • Offset your travel to/from Expo West.
  • Choose to eat vegetarian or vegan at least one meal per day OR make the commitment eat meat free ALL WEEK.

By working together, we can make the event more memorable, meet our audience’s expectations and reduce wasted time, resources, and costs. In 2024, all exhibitors were required to complete an Exhibitor Sustainability Survey prior to arriving on show site that measures levels of sustainability at the show and within their organization.

We also encourage all exhibitors to participate in The Better Stands program which aims to move away from disposable, single use stands, in favor of reusable or recyclable structures.

Reduce signage waste by:

  • Encourage less printing and provide more information digitally when it comes to booth literature, fulfilling requests via email and website referrals.
  • If you must print, create reusable non-dated signs that can be used year after year.
  • Avoid foamcore signs and request recyclable material such as cardboard signage.
  • Encourage retailers to favorite your products on Beacon Discovery. This gives them access to your entire brand profile and all uploaded product details, equipping them with key information needed to make a buying decision, without any waste.

Reduce booth waste by:

  • Requesting sustainable options from GES
  • BYOF!- Avoid carpet and bring your own flooring, like puzzle foam flooring that can be reused at all your shows
  • Break down ALL cardboard boxes and put in the correct recycling bin
  • Request additional booth bins for recycling and compost collection
  • Use only compostable or recyclable serviceware for samples and give-a-ways
  • Use the stickers provided at the Exhibitor Services desk to mark your materials for recycling or donation
  • Set a goal to leave no trace behind by shipping out all booth properties and packing materials and donating extra giveaways

Visit one of our 3-bin Waste Stations to compost food, compostable cups and other biodegradable products.
